Many locations carry two labels: whether you need permission to film there, and whether it costs anything. They show on location pages and cards, and you can filter by them on Explore.
Permission
- No licence needed: Public place where a small handheld crew can film without asking.
- May need a licence: Usually fine handheld, but tripods, bigger crews or blocking paths need the council's or owner's OK.
- Needs permission: Private land or a business. You need a licence or the owner's OK, even handheld.
Cost
- Free to film: you shouldn't need to pay to film there
- Fee to film: expect a location fee
Where we know more, the Filming here section on the location page says who to ask and roughly what it costs. Those details are for members.
As we understand it
The labels come from the person who added the location, from suggested edits and from the Wherish team. Wherish isn't a permissions authority and rules change, so always check with the landowner or local authority before you shoot.
Locations nobody has checked yet show no label. If you know the answer, suggest an edit.
